Nonprofit Marketing
Hi! I’m Bob Roth (AKA Robert Roth, PhD), marketing consultant. I work with nonprofits to increase marketing impacts and reduce marketing expense. My nonprofit work has touched more than 100 million people and raised more then $40 million.
Some Good News And
some Bad News
The good news is that nonprofit marketing can be a simple, relatively inexpensive process. But, unfortunately, the bad news is that far too many nonprofit marketing campaigns are way too complicated and way too expensive.
Six Ways To Improve
Marketing Results
So, back to good news. There are six best practices that a nonprofit can take advantage of to make their marketing outreach more effective and more affordable.
1. Recruit An Affordable Marketing Guru
Motivated by a deep passion for a nonprofit organization’s Mission, a highly experienced marketing guru may be willing to volunteer or deeply discount their services. In either case, hiring an impassioned marketing guru may reduce overall marketing expense by as much as 50%.
2. Embrace Vilfredo Pareto
Vilfredo Pareto is most well-known for his 80/20 rule. The 80/20 rule proposes that the majority of outcomes (something like 80%) are frequently produced a minority of causes (something like 20%) . Bringing an 80/20 approach to nonprofit marketing can leverage small investments to produce big results.
3, Take Advantage of a Google Ad Grant
With a Google Ad Grant, for up to $10,000 per month, a resource challenged nonprofit can take their outreach and fundraising appeals to the top of the Internet.
4. Engage Skilled Copywriters
A skilled copywriter can create engaging, compelling and consistent communications across all media, events and fundraising efforts. engaging a well qualified volunteer or deeply discounted staffer or freelancer can make copywriting very affordable.
5. Consummate a Marketing Marriage
Nonprofit/for-profit marketing partnerships (e.g. marketing marriages) can be a powerful force for building nonprofit audiences and increasing grants and donations. Many for-profit companies are eager to partner with a nonprofit because, while for-profit marketers struggle to engage consumers’ hearts and minds, nonprofits do that every day.
6. Cross Functional Integration
Taking a cross functional approach to marketing planning makes marketing programs more effective and a great deal less expensive.
